Major characters

Yu Narukami

The main character who becomes embroiled in a local mystery involving a paranormal TV channel after moving from the big city. Personality-wise...well, he doesn't really have one, but since this is VGR, he'll probably flirt outrageously with a host of male classmates. Has a Special Power.

Yosuke Hanamura

Yosuke is one of the first friends Gary makes in Inaba, and possibly the first boyfriend he gets, too. Just like Gary, he moved to Inaba from a big city, but unlike Gary, his dad is hated by the townspeople for bringing big-brand consumerism to their unspoiled, family-run doorstep. Frequently damages his nuts.

Chie Satonaka

A tomboyish martial-arts enthusiast who latches on to Gary on his first day at school. It's totally platonic, though -- she only has eyes for her "best friend." She can be annoying and is a little too protective of her kung-fu DVDs, but she can literally punt enemies out of existence, so Gary likes having her around.

Yukiko Amagi

Chie's BFF (yeah, right) whose family runs a local Inn. Overly demure and apologetic, she doesn't seem to be aware of her own attractiveness even though she's apparently hotter than the sun and asking her out is an officially recognized challenge among the male students. Sadly, nobody has told them they're barking up the wrong tree.

Teddie

A creepy, animated stuffed toy who lives inside the TV. No, really. He thinks he's a bear, even though he looks nothing like one, and has a voice that sounds like Tidus being scraped down a chalkboard.

Ryotaro Dojima

	Nickname(s): Hot Uncle
	Age: 41
	First Appearance: Part 1

Gary's uncle and, I guess, legal guardian for the next year. This isn't very reassuring when you consider that he can't even look after his own kid properly, since he's extremely busy screwing his young assistant at work and apparently hasn't heard of childcare.

Nanako Dojima

Gary's young cousin, who plays the dual role of cute-as-a-button child and doting housewife. The only pleasure in her lonely, miserable life seems to be the advertising jingle for a local shopping outlet. I want to adopt the poor kid, and I don't even LIKE children.

Tohru Adachi

A friendly, bumbling rookie detective who recently moved to Inaba and now works under Dojima. Like that. May or may not have an affinity for cabbages.

Taro Namatame

The councilman's secretary whose affair with Mayumi Yamano caused him to lose his job, and her to lose her life. Even though being unemployed sucks, he clearly got the better deal here. Now he spends his days looking depressed down by the river.

Kanji Tatsumi

On the surface, Kanji's a short-tempered thug with a penchant for brawling with biker gangs. But look a little deeper, and he's...a short-tempered thug with sexual identity issues! Seriously, though, he's an awesome character, even with that dye-job.

An excessively creepy old man who rides around in a supernatural limo and picks up teenage boys while they're asleep. Has an extremely phallic nose, mysterious powers and also does tarot readings on the side.

Margaret

Igor's assistant, or something. She has yellow eyes, a monotonous voice, and...nope, I'm all out of things to say about her. Her dress is nice, I guess.

Kinshiro Morooka

Philosophy teacher at Gary's new school who, by a stroke of bad luck, also happens to be Gary's homeroom teacher. He's a giant dick who's unhealthily obsessed with his students' sex lives, actual or perceived. If only something bad were to happen to him...

Saki Konishi

A student at Yasogami High who also works part-time at the Junes food court. She appears to have designs on Yosuke, so it's quite fortunate for Gary that she's...removed from the situation pretty early on.

Kimiko Sofue

Yasogami High's history teacher who has a penchant for dressing up as an Egyptian pharaoh. I got nothin'.

Gas Station Attendant

A worker at the Moel gas station who briefly meets Gary upon his arrival in town. I'm not even sure why he/she has an entry here, since he/she is nobody important and won't have any impact on the story at all. No, sir.

Old Man Daidara

A, shall we say, rugged old man who runs a completely out-of-place weapon emporium in the middle of Inaba's shopping district. Has probably served time in prison. Gary avoids him like the plague.

Old Lady Shiroku

A deceptively sweet old lady who runs Inaba's pharmacy, I guess. Her frankly extortionate prices mean that Inaba's residents probably have to remortgage their homes in order to cure even the most minor ailments. I'm pretty sure at least one person out there has paired her with Daidara, sadly.

Mr Kondo

Gary's reasonably attractive PE teacher, and also part-time English teacher. I'm kind of envious of Gary, because my PE teachers all had varicose veins and/or halitosis.

Daisuke Nagase

A member of Yasogami High's soccer team and the Ambiguously Gay Sports Trio. Despite himself, Gary ends up being tempted by Daisuke's brawny charms on more than one occasion. Cue much angst between the goalposts.

Kou Ichijo

Daisuke's "best friend," captain of the basketball team and the other member of the Ambiguously Gay Sports Trio. Apparently has a big mouth and likes polishing balls. Hey, I'm just repeating what I read on the screen.

Mr Hosoi

Gary's classical literature teacher (with a sideline in giving kids nightmares). Uses a miniature glove puppet version of himself in lessons, for no apparent reason other than to be QUIRKY! Needless to say, Gary won't be leaving apples on his desk anytime soon.

Eri Minami

An unhappy woman who bumps into Gary at the daycare. Even though Gary could not care less about her strained relationship with her stepson, he finds himself offering tea and sympathy anyway. He really needs to learn how to stop attracting troubled strangers looking to offload their personal problems.

Ayane Matsunaga

A staggeringly timid girl who Gary meets when he joins Yasogami High's symphonic band. In hindsight, he really should have joined the drama club instead.

Mr Yamada

Yasogami High's geography teacher. In case Gary didn't hate geography enough already, it turns out Mr Yamada here has a less than healthy interest in his students, Yukiko in particular. You don't need to be creepy to work here, but it helps!

Fox

A magical fox who lives at the town's abandoned Tatsuhime Shrine. On the pretext of granting wishes in return for donations to the shrine, he distributes dope to Inaba's stoners (and Gary).
