Marlok is a sleazy French fish-man who works as a shady merchant in Synesta. He takes quite a liking to Sandy, which does not bode well for her. For some reason, his name is usually highlighted in red. And...that's it. Major characters
Ryu
|
Nickname(s): | Ruley |
| First Appearance: | Part 1 |
Our hero is a Silent Protagonist, which means that he never says a word and therefore is blander than the entire cast of Chrono Cross (yes, all of them) combined. He also has rather spiffy blue hair, which is thrust in our faces every five seconds. Oh, yeah, and he can turn into a dragon. What are the odds that this power will become central to the plot? Quite likely, in case you were dumb enough to think otherwise. I mean, the title is a bit of a giveaway.
Nina
|
Nickname(s): | Sandy |
| First Appearance: | Part 1 |
Young Nina has a not-very-interesting combination of a sickly-sweet personality coupled with a taste in clothes that makes Li'l Kim look prudish. She also has wings, which she neglects to tell Ruley about until it's almost too late. Airheaded bitch. Nina clearly wants Ruley (note to Capcom: look up 'originality' in the dictionary), but her desires, for now at least, are unfulfilled. Good.
Cray
|
Nickname(s): | Clay |
| First Appearance: | Part 1 |
Fortunately, Cray doesn‘t share Nina‘s clothing philosophy that less is more. However, he does wear a loincloth (pretty pointless as he also wears pants) and has a tail. Cray is a beastman (but this doesn’t make him any more menacing), and he is very overprotective of Nina. Maybe he secretly wants her. Sadly, Cray doesn’t have much of a personality, and I have a theory that he should have been called 'Crap' until Capcom made a typo.
Fou-Lu
|
Nickname(s): | Hamlet |
| First Appearance: | Part 1 |
Despite having a cool name, spiffy white hair and shibby dragon powers, Fou-Lu is let down by his stupid dialogue. There are more thees, thous and thines than in The Complete Works of Shakespeare. Apparently, Fou-Lu is the God Emperor, and founder of the great Fou Empire, whatever that is. He also seems to be supernaturally linked to Ruley in some way. Maybe they have the same hair stylist.
Ershin
|
Nickname(s): | TikTok |
| First Appearance: | Part 3 |
Ershin is a weird (to say the least) woman who permanently lives inside a walking suit of armour. Providing the early comic relief to the game, she is a darn sight more likable than some other members of the party who I decline to name. Oh, and she isn't normal. That's the first time you'll hear it, but it sure ain't the last.
Scias
|
Nickname(s): | none |
| First Appearance: | Part 6 |
A alcoholic stuttering samurai sheepdog. If that hasn't sold you on this character, I don't know what will. Scias is assigned to keep watch over the party after their indiscretions in the Empire, but he doesn't seem to get the whole "under arrest" part.
Other characters
Yohm
|
Nickname(s): | Rudolph |
| First Appearance: | Part 1 |
Poor Yohm was probably the butt of his classmates' jokes, especially at Christmas time - his nose is redder than Rudolph's. He also looks deformed from the waist down (don't take that out of context), but he seems to have unfinished business with Fou-Lu, and has kick-ass magic powers. He's also a figure of importance in the Empire.
General Rasso
|
Nickname(s): | Triple H |
| First Appearance: | Part 2 |
A bastard General who seems to be hounding Ruley over something. Maybe he forgot to leave a tip on his last trip to the hair salon.
Lord Yuna
|
Nickname(s): | none |
| First Appearance: | Part 3 |
Yep, it's a guy called Yuna. While you FFX fanboys try to come to terms with this act of treason, just remember that Lord Yuna is a really tall and creepy man who also happens to be Very Important in the Empire.
Bunyan
|
Nickname(s): | Hagrid |
| First Appearance: | Part 5 |
Our old friend Hagrid the pedophilic woodsman steps into a BoF3-brand magical transportation device and somehow ends up in the sequel, where he cares for the injured Hamlet. And Hamlet appears to be very appreciative of his "caring ministrations", if you catch my drift.
Lyta
|
Nickname(s): | none |
| First Appearance: | Part 5 |
Sister Lyta is a nun who presides over a run-down orphanage in Synesta, City of Nightmare Camera Angles. She's obviously received a bucketload of divine intervention, having managed to avoid being driven to hard liquor and narcotics by the kids in her care.
Chino
|
Nickname(s): | Too many profanities to list |
| First Appearance: | Part 5 |
Chino is an excessively annoying dog-faced brat, who exists only to infuriate 12-year-old, British, gay, poorly-endowed, women's-lib-hindering recappers by becoming the catalyst for contrived Minitortures pulled straight from the dark recesses of a game designer's ass. In case you couldn't tell, I'm not overly fond of him.
Kahn
|
Nickname(s): | Kahn the Crack Addict |
| First Appearance: | Part 5 |
The musclebound oaf named Kahn spends his days guarding Marlok's house and - judging by his scary avatar - seeking his next crack fix. Something tells me he has a special place in the hearts of the game designers.
Marlok
|
Nickname(s): | none |
| First Appearance: | Part 5 |
Marlok is a sleazy French fish-man who works as a shady merchant in Synesta. He takes quite a liking to Sandy, which does not bode well for her. For some reason, his name is usually highlighted in red. And...that's it. Who said this game doesn't have interesting characters?
Una
|
Nickname(s): | none |
| First Appearance: | Part 7 |
A female Woren who's been keeping Kahn as her housemaid, or sex slave, or something. Apparently she used to beat up Clay as a child, which makes her OK in my book.
Ilgor
|
Nickname(s): | Grandpa Tonberry |
| First Appearance: | Part 7 |
I have no idea what Ilgor's actual job title is, but he works for the Ludian prince and appears to be Scias's employer. Between his wizened, hunched-over appearance, black, empty eyes and lizard tail, he scares the shit out of me.
Tarhn
|
Nickname(s): | Tarhn the Furry |
| First Appearance: | Part 7 |
Clay's mother. That's really all the information you need in order to determine how I feel about her. Purveyor of useless information despite being hailed as a font of knowledge, she's also really fond of cats, at least if her choice of babydaddy is any indicator.
Prince Morley
|
Nickname(s): | Prince Cowlick |
| First Appearance: | Part 7 |
Videogame princes tend to come in two varieties: dashing, noble heroes, or snobbish, heartless dickholes. Prince Morley falls firmly in the latter category, and has a cowlick hairstyle to boot. What a winner!
Blacksmith
|
Nickname(s): | Scotty |
| First Appearance: | Part 7 |
A highly original and not-at-all clichéd dwarven blacksmith. He lives in an active volcano and has a rather unpleasant fetish…so of course, the party decides to pay him a visit. Sadly, this doesn't prove to be their undoing.
Mami
|
Nickname(s): | none |
| First Appearance: | Part 7 |
A country hick who's apparently going to become Hamlet's love interest. This likely won't end well, both because she's female and because it wouldn't fit his tragic arc.
