Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies Open Thread

Jesus, that is a mouthful of a title.

Anyway, feel free to talk about the newest Anal Attorney game here. We ask that, if you want to talk spoilers, you preface your post with a specific spoiler warning (e.g. “Spoilers through case 4”). Remember that Jeanne and I have to check the comments so we’d appreciate not finding out that Phoenix and Edgeworth die at the end with each other’s penises in their hands.

And for those of you who want to be sure to remain entirely unspoiled, I would suggest just waiting to read this thread until later. Non-spoilery funny lines, wardrobe commentary, and so on are totally fine to discuss without spoiler warnings.

Case 477-9 Side B was crazy, wasn’t it? SPOILERS

Larry finds out he’s the reincarnation of Napoleon, Mia comes back from the dead only to sacrifice her life to destroy the Blue Badger when it malfunctions and goes on a killing spree, Apollo reveals that he’s bisexual, the Judge is revealed to be a True Rune bearer, and Phoenix and Edgeworth get married!

I’m on the 4th case now but I have to say the previous two cases were absolutely bonkers. This game sure is wink wink nudge nudge about Bobby Fulbright and Simon Blackquill, don’t you think?

The first case got interesting, but then case 2 and 3 just got super mega weird. It was something like 3AM as I played through case 3 and I texted my BFF and went “I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING”. Still, I love Athena’s reactions every time she gets shot down in court. Case 4 I think is starting to elaborate on What’s the Deal with the Prosecution, in typical AA fashion.

I haven’t gotten the game and I’m not sure I’m gonna… as much as I love the homosexual innuendoes and all that, the idiocy of the law system is really pissing me off. So if I stumble upon a spoiler, I won’t be too blown out. Only thing I liked about the pre-release info I got is Edgeworth with glasses.

I beat the game (already, because I don’t sleep like some kind of maniac), and… wow, there were a LOT of typos and bugs in this game. Nothing gamebreaking, but I suspect the rush to release the game much sooner to the Japanese version compared to previous games took its toll on the QA. By the end credits, half of the credits were… missing. Just, flat out didn’t actually list any names. Ah well. TECHNICAL ISSUES ASIDE, the story was absolutely insane the whole way through. Also, case 5 spoilers (sort of):

Edgeworth and Phoenix are SO going steady. Phoenix takes Edgeworth on dates to see Trucy’s magic shows? They call each other? Phoenix asks Edgeworth for fashion advice? Oh, and Edgeworth helped Phoenix talk about all the favours they owe each other? .

    Also case 5 spoilers:

If you flub up during a certain point in case 5, Edgeworth will call Phoenix out on it and Phoenix will reply to him with “Y-yes, daddy…”

    Case 5 Spoilers:

I finished the game yesterday. Wow, everything with Phoenix and Edgeworth was 100% blatant fan pandering and I loved every second of it. I was so impatient throughout the rest of the game to get to Edgeworth (Sam and I messaged each other with some variation of “WHERE THE FUCK IS EDGEWORTH” multiple times) but the wait was totally worth it. So the last case was ridiculous and full of plot holes, but Phoenix and Edgeworth arguing in court over who has better aesthetic sensibilities more than made up for it.

Also, as Sam pointed out, this game had way more hoyay than the last one. Even Pearl and Trucy were no longer trying to hook Phoenix up with a lady.

Note: I hope this works as a quote.

When I saw that, Jeanne, I couldn’t help but cackle and wish I had the money for the game. Everyone knows that Phoenix and Edgeworth want each other, and finally Capcom realizes it too!
