Happy Freaking Anniversary!

Six years ago, VGR went live with a very small number of recaps. Because of the lasting power of penis jokes, it has grown to a site with 214 recaps, five recappers, a whole bunch of forum posters, and even more site visitors — some of whom actually enjoy the recaps! Although it hasn’t exactly been the most prolific year in terms of recaps, things started picking up toward the end of 2007 and beginning of 2008, particularly with the addition of this nifty front page blog. In short: yay for VGR!

But you guys don’t want to read about our self-congratulations. You want the goodies. And boy, do we have some (non-sexual) goodies for you!

Recaps:
Phoenix Wright Part 2 by Sam
Final Fantasy VII Part 11 by Jeanne

Both of these are super-sized for your reading pleasure!

And now for the obligatory thank-yous:

Thanks to my fellow recappers for their hilarious contributions to this site, which they do in their own free time for, well, free. You guys are so totally awesome.

Thanks to the forum posters, not just for supporting the site, but for helping me out with gathering quotes for the sidebar. Yeah, I’m behind on updating that, but I still really, really appreciate your help.

And of course, thanks to everyone who reads the site, both supporters and angry fanpersons. The former because it’s great to know that there are people out there with pervy senses of humor who don’t take their games too seriously, and the latter because of the entertainment value (In small doses. I’m not encouraging people to show up and act like massive douchebags.) Obviously we like the site supporters better. 😀

We also have some great things in store for the coming year, so stay tuned!

Recapper Roleplay

Have you ever wondered what would happen if the recappers themselves were game characters and kept diaries of the crazy, snarkworthy worlds around them? Or if your favorite game characters wrote about their adventures in a blog?

Wonder no more!

We’re trying out a new feature on the site which I have tentatively titled “Recapper Roleplay.” This has none of the sick connotations that probably just popped into your pervy minds. The first installment will feature Jeanne Recapiere, a character in the game Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, who just happens to be the daughter of a once-famous recapping family. Will she fulfill her goal of restoring her family’s name and becoming a famous recapper? Or does fate have other plans for her?

Find out soon!

Blog Time!

Welcome to the new version of VGR! I’ve done what I should have done a long time ago. No, not suicide. I turned the front page into a blog. Now, why did I do that? To put it simply: more frequent updates. The recaps take time to write and edit and all that, whereas blog posts are a lot less…massive. I want to keep the site alive, and even when I bust my ass to get recaps done, that’s only going to happen every few weeks at the very least. Also, the other recappers and I play a lot of games. Most of these don’t get recapped, but still deserve our snarky treatment. Sure, we could post that crap on the forums or online journals, but why do that when we can post it on the front page of VGR?

I’ve done my best to make the look of the blog fit the look of the site, but my apologies if some of my outdated HTML looks like shite in your browser. That will (hopefully) change during the next site redesign, but till then, just try to cope.

You might have noticed that I have commenting turned on, with registration open to everyone. However, I also have it set so that you will need your first comment approved before it shows up on the site. This should only happen with your very first comment. I am hoping that everyone can act like a decent human being and that I won’t be forced to turn on moderated comments for everyone. I know — this is very optimistic of me. I’m also not afraid to delete douchebaggy comments. This doesn’t mean that I’ll delete all comments that disagree with us, so don’t freak out. I’m talking about immature dipshits who go out of their way to troll blogs and generally act like asshats. If that’s not you, then you don’t have anything to worry about. Good? Good.

Oh, and forum accounts won’t work on the blog. You’ll have to register separately. Sorry for that inconvenience.

I think that’s all for now. It’s blog time!
