Final Fantasy VI part 7

Hey friends, long time no recap! I had some stuff come up this spring, and by “some stuff” I mean Persona 5. I’m sure you all get it. Anyway, enjoy this Final Fantasy VI recap! It’s this obscure bit of the game about an opera house? Don’t hear people talk about it much.

Amazing recap, per usual. Love all the timely political jokes. I also think I blocked this part of the game from my memory and now realize why.

  2. Accidentally The Sun

I think I liked the opera segment mainly because the music is pretty – even if I personally think Celes’s theme is the much better version of it – and because I think the Maria sprite is cute.

But, yeah… now I’m just wondering what the hell kind of attraction Celes and Locke even HAVE to each other. I mean, Jesus, I can even buy Tifa and cloud or Aerith and Cloud or even Tifa and Aerith much more easily than Celes and Locke – like, “Their sprite artworks indicates they could both possibly be totally hot”? Considering you can make everyone damn-near interchangeable in FFVI, I guess Celes admires Locke’s… usefulness in stealing cool shit in battle, and Locke admires Celes’s… uhh… err… natural affinity for ice magic and situationally-useful MP Absorb abilities…? (And I guess her theme music.)

Setzer, I’ll admit, I like/tolerate him for the airship and the Darryl backstory (insert “ha ha, woman drivers” joke here), and for also having cool music rotating around his character… but…otherwise, he is kind of a giant douche. I know this girl who used to have a big crush on him (and an odd fixation of Darryl, for how minor a character she was – it’d be like crushing on the Mayor of Narshe) and I’m still trying to figure out why. I don’t think I’ll ever know for sure.

Thanks for the reminder of how disturbing and fucked-up the opera sequence was! Although, I will admit I’m actually fond of the whole Ultros sideplot for how fucking ridiculous it was. Actually, that’s my main reason for being okay with Ultros overall. He’s creepy, yeah, but at least he embraces it and shows up in the most bizarre places for no goddamn reason other than to make things go off the rails. I feel like the FFVI experience would’ve been enhanced if he’d shown up in Doma during the poisoning and Cyan had to fight him to stop him from dragging the corpses off somewhere.
