Religions are usually stupid and evil in the real world too, but they are so much worse in RPGs. Every conspiracy theory turns out to be true, and every religious leader is a horrible undead devil pedophile specifically trying to bring about the apocalypse.

- Final Fantasy X: Yevon sucks, and its Metroid-like god is the final boss of the game. Every Maester is the world's worst idea of the Pope.
- Final Fantasy X-2: The fact that their god is dead doesn't stop Yevon from cynically rebranding itself as "New Yevon." New Yevon sucks just as much as Old Yevon, surprise!
- Grandia II: What do you mean, the Church of Granas is evil? No fucking way.
- Lunar: Silver Star Story: Okay, the church of Althena is not really that bad. But it is ubiquitous, its high priestess turns out to be a fraud villainess, and a certain deity ends up going grimdark and fucking everything up.
- Xenosaga Episode II: The Space Pope is totally a good guy! Don't listen to that evil music!
